Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Michael Kidd says data from the United Kingdom shows it’s “essential” for people to receive two full doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

He says one dose of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine provides protection “within a few days” and “increases over time” but this immunity is short-lived.

“Both the Pfizer and the AstraZeneca vaccines require the full two-dose course for the very best, long-lasting immune response,” Mr Kidd said.

“By being immunised, you’re not only protecting your own health and wellbeing, but you’re also protecting everyone else in Australia.”
