Though the vaccine rollout is continuing to roll, the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over yet, and that means two things: 1) we have to continue with some of the practices that have made the past year so difficult (many related to gatherings, socializing, and physical distancing), and 2) at some point, we’re going to have to exist in public again like semi-normal human beings, after more than a year of collective and individual stress, grief, and trauma.
This is all to say that most of us could use some support in the mental health department. In fact, in the American Psychological Association’s 2020 “Stress in America” survey, close to 80% of American adults reported that the pandemic is a significant source of stress in their lives. To help us begin to heal mentally, online therapy app Talkspace is offering a free 10-day mental health course developed specifically for the challenges we’re facing right now. Here’s what to know.
What the course includesBefore we go any further, two things to note. First is that this or any online course is no substitute for working one-on-one with a mental health professional and should not be used in place of seeking help if you need it. Second is that therapy isn’t affordable and accessible for everyone, so tools like these are able to provide at least some form of information and guidance.

This particular course was created by accredited, licensed clinicians, and includes daily lessons, guided experiences, and other tools to help people manage their feelings and prioritize their mental health.
How to access the courseTo start the course, visit this page on the Talkspace website and enter your email address (or at least an email address—you get access as soon as you enter one, without having to confirm via a link emailed to you). Then, you’ll be able to see and utilize all 10 days of the lessons and activities, doing them at your own pace and in the order that makes the most sense for you.
