South Africa’s favourite football wordsmith
Steve Komphela sent a message to veteran Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng
Khune after Mamelodi Sundowns celebrated the DStv Premiership title win.

It is Komphela’s first PSL title win as a coach
after the Brazilians shockingly lured him to Chloorkop before the start the season to take
charge as a senior coach alongside co-head coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani
Mokwena.

Sundowns celebrated the title win in a rain
of yellow confetti after claiming a convincing 3-0 win over a visiting Cape
Town City at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

Soon after, on Sunday, Komphela, who is
never shy of sharing a word of encouragement and is known around the country for
his poetic post-match interviews, took to Twitter to interact with his more
than 130 000 followers.

He said: “At a position of
privilege, be humble. At a position of underprivileged, silently focus on your
dreams. Knowing pain helps you understand others’ pain. We rejoice, but
measured, because others are reeling. We are thankful @Masandawana, The Pres,
Chair, Board, everyone involved.”

Komphela, who previously mentored Free
State Stars, Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs, received a
message from Khune as well.

The ‘keeper congratulated his former coach
and vowed that next season Amakhosi, who finished eight on the DStv Premiership
standings, will be back challenging for honours.

“Congratulations Mokwetlisi
@komphelasteve we coming back strong next season,” said Khune.

Komphela was never going to allow Khune to
get the last word and said that he hopes both Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates are
vying for the title next season.

He said: “Thank you MADÉ! We are
waiting by the near post, far post well covered as well. A stronger
@KaizerChiefs, very competitive @orlandopirates makes the Premiership stronger,
the game develops further. It would be great to have a fierce competition with
supporters in. You owe us!”
