Next year’s Hong Kong Film Awards presentation ceremony will be postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the Hong Kong Film Awards Association said because the coronavirus has forced local cinemas to close for prolonged periods this year, the release of many movies has been pushed back substantially.
It said it is only reasonable for the awards presentation ceremony to be postponed by a year, adding that all movies in 2020 and 2021 that satisfy its criteria will be eligible for nomination in the first quarter of 2022.
The annual Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony – which recognises achievements in various aspects of film-making – is typically held in April every year, featuring a red carpet and star-studded show.
This year’s event was live-streamed on social media following a month-long postponement, after the Covid-19 outbreak forced organisers to scrap the ceremony.
