Mikaela Shiffrin, the Olympic skiing gold medalist athlete, continues to show her prowess on the slopes as she became the first female skier to achieve 86 wins in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on Tuesday, setting a new record.
The achievement was celebrated by all throughout the alpine skiing community. Fans, coaches, and even fellow World Cup competitors praised her as her victory was made.
“GOAT!” (The Greatest of All Time) said the headline of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard, who were among many who congratulated Shiffrin on her spectacular win. The 25-year-old American achieved her 86th World Cup victory with a strong performance in the women’s slalom at Satu Mare, Romania, with a commanding 0.81 second lead over her closest competitor, Petra Vlhova.
Shiffrin has now become the most decorated female winner in the history of the World Cup. Her coaches, Patrick Riml and Mike Day, both expressed their immense pride over the achievement as Riml noted, “This truly is a remarkable milestone, not only for women’s alpine skiing, but for the sport as a whole.”
Shiffrin has had an extensive list of achievements to her name throughout the past six years and her 86th win has placed her above the likes of Austria’s Annemarie Moser-Proell and Switzerland’s Vreni Schneider, who both previously held the record with 85 wins.
Off the slopes, Shiffrin is hugely admired for the way in which she engages with her fans and takes the time to communicate on social media with her followers.
As Shiffrin said after her win on Tuesday, “I’m incredibly proud of what I have accomplished so far, but I know there is still much more I can do. I look forward to pushing onwards and upwards and embracing the challenge.”
The alpine skiing community is already looking forward to see what other feats Mikaela Shiffrin is capable of achieving as her talent continues to astound.
Congratulation, Mikaela Shiffrin, who has broken yet another record on her journey to becoming the GOAT!
