Over 113,000 Ukrainians have temporarily resettled in the United States, thanks to the U.S. government program Uniting for Ukraine. But many of these refugees are finding themselves lost in a new country. A Virginia agency is helping them start their new lives. Ksenia Turkova has the story. (Camera: Alexey Zonov)
In a time of great need and distress, a Virginia based non-profit has come to the aid of refugees from Ukraine. Calling themselves ‘The Community For Ukrainian Relief’ (CUR), this non-profit is providing essential resources to help Ukrainian refugees as they settle into a new life in the United States.
Ukraine has been facing turbulent times since the beginning of the Ukrainian Revolution in 2014. The ensuing conflict has displaced millions of people in Eastern Ukraine, and many of them are now living as refugees in US cities, having seeked refuge from the ongoing conflict in their homeland.
CUR is providing a number of essential services and resources to these refugees. One of their main activities is providing housing and livelihood assistance to the refugees. CUR has partnered with many local organizations to provide temporary housing and job placement to Ukrainian refugees. Additionally, CUR is providing language, healthcare and education resources to the refugees as they try to settle into the new environment.
While many of the Ukrainian refugees face difficult times as they navigate the cultural and language barrier, CUR provides a beacon of hope to these people. The non-profit’s volunteers and staff provide emotional support and counsel to the refugees, guiding them through the difficult transition process.
The Community For Ukrainian Relief has been a shining example of the power of compassion in times of adversity. Through their continuing efforts and dedication, they have brought hope to many Ukrainian refugees who have been displaced from their home.
