President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday delivered his address at the plenary session of the 5th United Nations (UN) Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LCDs) and Bilateral meeting with Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the transitional president of Chad.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that President Buhari is in Doha, Qatar alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance; Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and other top government functionaries.

Organisers say the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries is aimed at “accelerating sustainable development in the places where international assistance is needed the most – and to tap the full potential of the Least Developed Countries helping them make progress on the road to prosperity”.

This year’s theme is From Potential to Prosperity.

It is expected that at the Conference, specific initiatives and concrete deliverables will be announced that will address LDC-specific challenges including the climate crisis and environmental degradation.
