The world looked on and did nothing.
Now in 2023 and after almost 11 months of escalation and devastation, Putin has still not been stopped.
He has targeted Ukraine and its citizens as he tries to create his view of history. For this, Ukraine is facing genocide as Russian forces bomb cities, villages, schools, hospitals, parks and playgrounds, along with residential areas.
Citizens have been tortured and executed, then dumped into mass graves. In some cases, Russian soldiers have raped women and children.
Russia enforces filtration and even taken children away from their parents to be raised as Russian citizens.
Russian citizens, as well as the oligarchs and the Moscow Russian Orthodox Patriarchate, have become complicit in these atrocities.
The world has continued to look on and applaud the bravery of Ukraine, President Vladimir Zelensky, and men and women who fight to repel the Russian invaders.
But Russia’s invasion threatens not only Ukraine, but also Europe and the world. Russia must be defeated.
It is time to declare Putin a terrorist and Russia a state supporter of terrorism. All Russian diplomats should be expelled.
Putin and Russia must also be met by force. Ukraine needs to have access to air defense and missile defense systems for protection against Russian attacks. It needs access to long-range artillery, tanks, advanced rocket systems, air and naval weapons.
The Ukrainian military has proved over time it has the ability, determination and courage to push back and defeat Russians.
Many leaders of the free world have often spoke of how they stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. If that is to have any meaningful substance these leaders need to provide the necessary weapons so Ukraine — and the world — can win this war.
It is wonderful to see the US, Germany and other countries step up their response to provide some of these weapons. We must continue to see the world order and its principles remain in place or the next battleground may be the NATO states.
