Who We Are
Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal, DBA ICODEUSA is a global 501 (c)3 youth development organization incorporated under the laws of the state of Colorado, US.

What We Do
We work to advance STEM education in Senegal and in the US, while providing safe spaces for children to learn and grow.

We target those who need us the most; particularly children, the LGBTQ+ community and people with limited English proficiency.

We offer virtual and onsite STEM courses at our coding center; ICODEUSA.ORG.  Our STEM program is designed to help students 9-21 yrs develop robust technical skills to be able to compete in this changing world.

Our STEM Program focuses on three main pathways: Computer Science, Robotics and Cybersecurity.

Computer Science: (Age 9-14) The Computer Science pathway teaches students age 9-14 coding skills. This is an introductory computer science course where students learn coding concepts as they build applications and basic robotics projects. Students are familiarize with coding, programming, scripting and electronics. Upon completing the computer science pathway, students can choose to move to the Robotics or Cybersecurity pathway.

Robotics (Age 15-21)  The robotics pathway teaches students advanced robotics. Students are familiarize with advanced programming, scripting and electronics. This is an advanced module that requires basic coding knowledge, or completion of the computer science pathway.

Cybersecurity (Age 15-21)  The Cybersecurity pathway focuses on three main modules: defensive coding, networking, and penetration testing (vulnerability assessment). This is an advanced module that requires basic coding knowledge, or completion of the computer science pathway. Students in this module are familiarized with network protocols,  advanced scripting, defensive and offensive coding.

Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed to serve the needs of English learners, age 9 yrs and up. The program covers  three key areas of the English language: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading and Vocabulary. Classes are offered online, live, and pre-recorded by professional English teachers. Activities for the ESL programs comprise quizzes, tests, exercises, puzzles, random-sentence generator,  audio sentence player,  and other computer assisted language learning activities.

Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand spoken English as it is used in colleges and universities.
Structure and Written Expression measures recognition of selected structural and grammatical points in standard written English.
Reading Comprehension measures the ability to read and understand academic reading material written in English.

The ESL program is divided into two modules:

ESL Starter  (Age 9+) Students enrolled in this module are introduced to basic and intermediate ESL. Students learn basic to mid-level ESL reading, listening,  speaking, and language form and meaning.

ESL Advanced (Age 14+) This is an advanced ESL module that requires, as a prerequisite, the completion of the ESL Starter module or an intermediate to advanced-level of  English understanding, reading, and writing knowledge. Students enrolled in this module learn  structure and written expression, listening comprehension, and reading and vocabulary.  Furthermore, each student in the ESL advanced module is paired with a native English conversation partner, 4 hours/week, to practice and develop his/her English speaking skills. The English native speaker engages the student on various conversational topics and provides feedback on how the student can better improve his/her speaking ability. (The practice sessions are conducted through videoconferencing technologies, and are recorded for training purposes).
