Boys & Girls Clubs of Senegal (BGCSN), DBA ICODEUSA is a global 501 (c)3 youth development organization established in the US and in Senegal.
Our work involves advocating for the use of technology to expand educational opportunities in Africa and around the world. We provide STEM education and safe spaces for individuals with limited English proficiency to develop their language skills. In addition, we provide counseling and assistance for LGBTQ youth who are marginalized and often left with little hope beyond suicide.
Boys & Girls Clubs of SENEGAL is dedicated to establishing a community where every young individual can achieve their aspirations and unlock their full potential. We understand the importance of fostering a supportive environment for children’s holistic growth. Our ultimate goal is to equip young people with the resources they need to become future leaders by providing individualized attention and guidance.
Our STEM Program focuses on three main pathways: Computer Science, Robotics and Cybersecurity.
Computer Science: (Age 12+) The Computer Science pathway teaches students aged 12+ coding skills. This is an introductory computer science course where students learn coding concepts as they build applications and basic robotics projects. Students are familiarized with coding, programming, scripting and electronics. Upon completing the computer science pathway, students can choose to move to the Robotics or Cybersecurity pathway.
Robotics (Age 12+) The robotics pathway teaches students advanced robotics. Students are familiarized with advanced programming, scripting and electronics. This is an advanced module that requires basic coding knowledge, or completion of the computer science pathway.
Cybersecurity (Age 12+) The Cybersecurity pathway focuses on three main modules: defensive coding, networking, and penetration testing (vulnerability assessment). This is an advanced module that requires basic coding knowledge, or completion of the computer science pathway. Students in this module are familiarized with network protocols, advanced scripting, defensive and offensive coding.
Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed to serve the needs of English learners, age 9 yrs and up. The program covers three key areas of the English language: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading and Vocabulary. Classes are offered online, live, and pre-recorded by professional English teachers. Activities for the ESL programs comprise quizzes, tests, exercises, puzzles, random-sentence generator, audio sentence player, and other computer assisted language learning activities.
Listening Comprehension measures the ability to understand spoken English as it is used in colleges and universities.
Structure and Written Expression measures recognition of selected structural and grammatical points in standard written English.
Reading Comprehension measures the ability to read and understand academic reading material written in English.
The ESL program is divided into two modules:
ESL Starter (Age 12+) Students enrolled in this module are introduced to basic and intermediate ESL. Students learn basic to mid-level ESL reading, listening, speaking, and language form and meaning.
ESL Advanced (Age 12+) This is an advanced ESL module that requires, as prerequisite, the completion of the ESL Starter module or an intermediate to advanced-level of English understanding, reading, and writing knowledge. Students enrolled in this module learn structure and written expression, listening comprehension, and reading and vocabulary.
Students 15+ in advanced ESL can be enrolled in our one-on-one English speaking practice program. Students are paired with native English conversation partners, 4 hours/week, to practice and develop their English speaking skills. The English native speaker engages the student on various conversational topics and provides feedback on how the student can better improve his/her speaking ability. (The practice sessions are conducted through video-conferencing technologies, and are recorded for training purposes.
